Denton, Navarre and Domangue gaining ground in PRCA
Express Sports Agency riders Corey Navarre, Chad Denton and D.J. Domangue are in the midst of a hectic two-month schedule of bullriding on the PRCA circuit. Meanwhile, the Express Sports Agency riders who ride on the PBR Tour are preparing for the second half of their season to begin.
Chad Denton has been the biggest mover. He spent a bit of time north of the border in Ponoka, Alberta Canada at the Ponoka Stampede. He finished fourth in the first round and seventh in the average to earn nearly $3400 in qualifying dollars. He also rode in Livingston, Mont. where he finished second in the event and earned nearly $3000. Denton has moved to fourth in the PRCA bull riding standings with just over $62,000 in earnings.
Just behind Denton in fourth in Corey Navarre. He stayed closer to his home of Weatherford, Okla. riding in the Rodeo of the Ozarks in Springdale, Ark. Navarre finished third in the event, adding nearly $4,000 to his total for the season. Navarre is 6th in the standings with just over $61,000 in earnings this year.
D.J. Domangue was the busiest of the three riding in four different events from Prescott, Ariz. to Oakley City, Utah, Moalla, Ore. and Red Lodge, Mont. His travels paid off as he cashed in each event, earning over $9,000 in those days. That included wins at the events in Utah and Montana, a fourth place finish in Moalla and a sixth place finish in Prescott. His success at those events vaulted him to 14th in the standings with over $42,000 in earnings.
Presently, Denton, Navarre and Domangue are within the threshold for qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo in November. The 15 riders with the highest earnings head to Las Vegas for the opportunity to be a bull riding champion. They are chasing Shawn Hogg who is nearing the $100,000 mark in earnings. However, the difference between second and seventh place is only $3,000.
The Professional Bull Riders tour is a week away from returning to action. Several of the Express Sports Agency Riders took time off to heal injuries, while others rode in Touring Pro Division Events in an attempt to earn valuable dollars toward qualifying for the PBR World Finals.
Next stop on the PBR BFTS Tour is the Express Classic in Tulsa, Okla. July 16 - 18. Entering that event, Express Sports Agency riders occupy four of the top five and five of the top eight spots on tour. Austin Meier, winner of four events this season, is only 660 points behind leader Renato Nunes.
Coverage of the Express Classic on Versus won't be seen until July 30. Check your local listings for details. Following the event in Tulsa, the riders earn a week off before heading south to San Antonio for the U.S. Air Force Invitational July 31 - August 1.
