BFTS returns to action at Express Classic; PRCA riders continue solid riding
After a two-month rest the PBR's Built Ford Tough Series tour resumed last weekend at the Express Classic in Tulsa, Okla. Some Express Sports Agency riders fared well, some were injured, and some didn't compete at all. Meanwhile, the Express Sports Agency riders participating on the PRCA circuit each had productive weekends at rodeos around the country.
Chad Denton continued his hot streak at the California Rodeo in Salinas. He covered both of his bulls on the weekend en route to winning the event. He pocketed over $7,000 last weekend. That allowed him to move into second in the PRCA bull riding standings.
Corey Navarre and D.J. Domangue each rode last weekend in a rodeo in Sheridan, Wyoming. Navarre covered his lone bull during the event for an 85 and second place. He added $3300 to his total won for the year and moved to 5th place in the bull riding standings for the PRCA. Domangue participated in the same event as Navarre, covering his bull en route to a fifth place finish. Domangue added nearly $1,000 to his total and he sits 14th in the PRCA standings.
All three riders plan to continue riding throughout the summer in rodeos across the country. Currently all three are inside the top 15 which would earn them a trip to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in November. Spots #2 through #5 are separated by less than $4,000.
The PBR BFTS tour made its return in the furnace otherwise called Tulsa, Oklahoma. Hot, humid conditions blanketed the area making the inside of the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa the place to be. Newly signed Silvano Alves covered three of his four bulls on the weekend en route to a second place finish. Only a strong ride by fellow countryman Renato Nunes in the championship round prevented Alves from picking up his second event title of the year.
Valdiron de Oliviera was also successful on the weekend. Valdiron also covered three of his four bulls on the weekend en route to a third place finish in the event. Chris Shivers was the only other Express Sports Agency rider to finish in the money at the event, he finished 14th.
As well as Alves, de Oliviera and Shivers did, some of the other riders did not fare as well. Travis Briscoe and Luke Snyder each rode in the first round, but were injured in that round and were unable to compete. Guilherme Marchi spent the break in Brazil healing a broken hand. He came to Tulsa and was ready to ride, but his injury flared up and he and the PBR medical staff determined it would be best for him not to ride. Robson Palermo and Skeeter Kingsolver did not participate due to injury and are expected to return to action in August.
Express Sports Agency riders still occupy five of the top six spots on the BFTS tour with 10 riders qualifed to ride on tour.
Coverage of the Express Classic won't be seen on Versus until July 30. Thanks for your support of Express Sports Agency riders.
